Case Summary

[This summary is temporary while we research the case further.] On September 18, 2000, fifteen foreign women, on behalf of themselves and others similarly situated, sued Japan, seeking compensation for the inhumane experience they suffered as 'comfort women' before and during World War II. The plaintiffs alleged they were victims of sexual slavery and torture by the Japanese military, throughout Japanese-occupied Asia.
