Case Summary

(This summary is temporary while we research the case further). In April 2024, an advocate for federal prison reform filed a lawsuit against the Federal Bureau of Prisons (the "Bureau" or "BOP"). Plaintiff, and the non-profit she cofounded, More Than Our Crimes ("MTOC"), had been publishing articles and other pieces critical of the Bureau since 2020. Plaintiff alleged that the Bureau engaged in a concerted effort to cut off her access to information and to retaliate against her sources, in violation of the First and Fifth Amendment.
