This case concerns alleged intentional race discrimination in hiring practices at financial institutions.

On December 10, 2025, an individual plaintiff filed this class action lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase & Co. and JPMorgan Chase Bank N.A., in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The plaintiff alleged that the defendants engaged in intentional race discrimination in violation of 42 U.S.C. §1981, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 U.S.C. §2000e), and the Michigan Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act 453 of 1976 by engaging in systemic race discrimination against Black candidates through fake interviews (i.e., a company interviews a diverse candidate, including Black candidate, but has little or no intention to hire that person) and ultimately hiring a less-qualified White candidate. The plaintiff sought class certification, declaratory and injunctive relief, lost wages and monetary compensation, punitive and liquidated damages, as well as attorneys’ fees and costs.

On February 17, 2026, the defendants moved to dismiss the complaint.

As of April 10, 2026, this case is ongoing.
