Case Summary
On February 24, 2026, the Department of Justice (DOJ) filed this complaint in the Central District of California against the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). DOJ officials alleged that dozens of civil rights complaints filed by Jewish or Israeli employees were not properly investigated. The complaint alleged that the general atmosphere of antisemitism remains so severe that the University's failure to protect Jewish staff from this atmosphere constitute a hostile work environment in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
The DOJ requested a court order that:
- Enjoins UCLA from subjecting Jewish and Israel employees to a hostile work environment; enjoying UCLA from retaliating against employees who engage in activity protected under Title VII.
- Require UCLA to modify its anti-discrimination and anti-retaliation policies to effectively prevent and correct antisemitic discrimination.
- Award damages to the named charging parties to compensate them for pecuniary, non-pecuniary losses and economic harm.
- Award damages to other aggrieved Jewish and Israeli UCLA employees.
This case is ongoing.
