Case Summary

In July 2006, the Saint Louis District Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit against the nuclear clean-up companies Environmental Dimensions, Inc. and Shaw Environmental, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri alleging discrimination on the basis of gender, female, and retaliation in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged that the defendants subjected the complainant to a number of adverse work conditions in retaliation for her complaints of discrimination while working at another industry in the business. Following some discovery, the parties settled the lawsuit in October 2007 through a consent decree.

The two-year decree, containing anti-discrimination and retaliation clauses, required the defendant to: report on complaints and make other compliance reports, allow access to the EEOC for monitoring, develop its anti-discrimination policy, post notice of employee rights, provide EEO training, and pay $45,000 to the complaining party and her attorney.

Following the settlement, plaintiffs moved to dismiss the claims; the motion was granted on November 8, 2007. Given there is no further enforcement activity, presumably this matter ended in November 2009.
