In June 2004, the Memphis District Office of the EEOC brought this suit against Ajay Theaters, LLC, d/b/a Hollywood 20 Cinema, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. We do not have a copy of the complaint; therefore, the exact allegations involved are unknown. According to the consent decree, the complaint alleged that the defendant sexually harassed nine charging parties, female employees, in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. After some scheduling orders and a protective order, the defendant filed several motions for partial summary judgment against seven of the charging parties in late April and early May 2005. These motions were never resolved because the parties settled in early July 2005 through a consent decree.

The one-year decree, containing a non-discrimination clause, required the defendant to: provide anti-harassment training to all of its employees, report to the EEOC at specified intervals, distribute its anti-harassment policy, post a notice of the decree, and pay $75,000 to be distributed among the nine charging parties.
