Case Summary

The EEOC's Philadelphia district office sued Williamhouse of Pennsylvania, LLC on September 22, 2004 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. The EEOC alleged that the defendant violated Title VII when it discriminated based on race (African American) by paying the three intervenors, who intervened in November 2004, unequally or failing to increase their pay. The defendant filed two motions for summary judgment in September 2005, one of which was granted in part. …

The parties entered into a consent decree on October 13, 2006, which stipulated that the defendant would pay the complainants $72,500 in damages, costs and fees; post a notice of compliance with Title VII; provide Title VII training to its managers and human resources staff; revise and distribute its non-discrimination policy; maintain records of discrimination complaints; allow the EEOC access to its premises to ensure compliance with its record-keeping duties; and report compliance with the consent decree to the EEOC annually. The settlement term was two years. The docket sheet does not show any further enforcement; the case was presumably closed in 2008.
