Case Summary

In March 2003, the Atlanta District Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit against Cable Communications, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia alleging discrimination on the basis of sex in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In March 2003, the Atlanta District Office of the EEOC filed this lawsuit against Cable Communications, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia alleging discrimination on the basis of sex in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, the complaint alleged that the defendant subjected the four charging parties, female employees, to a sexually hostile work environment, resulting in the constructive discharge of the charging parties. The charging parties intervened in the lawsuit in July 2003. Following extensive discovery and two motions for summary judgment by the defendant, the parties settled the lawsuit through a consent decree in August 2004.

The two-year decree, containing a non-discrimination and non-retaliation clause, required the defendant to: report harassment complaints to the EEOC twice a year, certify compliance with notice posting and training measures, designate internal compliance officials, provide a neutral reference for complainants, post notice of employee rights, provide EEO training to its managers and clarify its current anti-harassment policies to all employees, update its anti-harassment policies and pay $200,000 to be distributed among four complainants.

On December 19, 2007, the court issued an order dissolving the consent decree, thus closing this case.
